Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains what information Case Track collects, how we use it, and the choices you have. GiveMe5 Inc. operates Case Track and is the business that collects and uses the information described here. In this policy, "we," "us," and "our" mean GiveMe5 Inc. Please read this policy carefully. By using the app, you agree to the practices described here.
1. Who we are and what the app does
Case Track is a LA Factory product, distributed by GiveMe5 Inc. It is an independent mobile app for iOS and Android that helps you follow your own U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) immigration case status. You add your USCIS receipt number, and we show you the latest public status for that case. The app is available in English, Spanish, and French. Case Track is free. We do not show ads, and we do not sell subscriptions or in-app purchases.
When you look up a receipt number, we retrieve that case's public status through the official USCIS Case Status API. LA Factory holds the developer agreement with USCIS for that API.
Not affiliated with USCIS or the U.S. government. CaseTrack is an independent app. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to USCIS, the Department of Homeland Security, or any other U.S. government agency. We simply help you view public case-status information that USCIS already makes available.
2. Information we collect
We collect only the information needed to run the app and deliver the alerts you ask for. Here is exactly what we collect:
- Email address — used for passwordless sign-in and to send you case-change alerts.
- Display name (optional) — a name you can choose to set; you do not have to provide one.
- USCIS receipt numbers you add, along with any optional nicknames you give them and your per-case alert preferences. These are stored on your device. When you create an account, they are also stored in our database so they sync across your devices.
- Device push-notification token, device platform, and language — used to deliver the alerts you turn on, in the language you use.
- One-time sign-in codes — stored only as a salted hash and set to expire automatically within minutes.
- Public USCIS case-status data that we retrieve on your behalf when you look up a receipt number.
To be clear, we do not collect any of the following:
- Your USCIS account password — we never ask for it.
- Social Security numbers.
- Alien Registration Numbers (A-numbers).
- Payment or credit card information.
- Your precise location.
- Your contacts.
3. How we use your information
We use the information we collect only to operate and improve CaseTrack. Specifically, we use it to:
- Sync your saved cases across your devices.
- Send you only the case-change alerts you choose to turn on.
- Email you one-time sign-in codes so you can log in without a password.
- Operate, secure, troubleshoot, and improve the service.
We do not use your information for advertising. The app does not show ads.
4. De-identified and aggregated data
We keep and analyze case-status data in de-identified, aggregated form to operate, secure, and improve CaseTrack and to understand general case trends and typical timelines. This de-identified data is keyed only by receipt number and is not linked to your name, email address, or account. We may keep and use this aggregated, de-identified data for as long as it is useful. We do not try to re-identify this data or connect it back to any individual person.
5. How we share information and third parties
We share information only with the service providers that help us run the app. These providers act on our behalf and only handle the data needed to do their job:
- Google Firebase — our hosting and infrastructure provider. We use Firebase Authentication, Cloud Firestore, Cloud Functions, and Cloud Messaging to sign you in, store your data, run our server code, and deliver push notifications.
- Resend — delivers the one-time sign-in codes we email to you.
- USCIS Case Status API — receives the receipt number you look up so it can return that case's public status. We send the receipt number and display the public status USCIS returns.
These service providers are contractually bound to protect your information consistent with this Privacy Policy. They may use it only to provide services to us and may not use it for their own purposes.
Third-party use or disclosure of your information, including any de-identified, anonymized, or pseudonymized data, is prohibited for any purpose without your active consent. The only exception is where we are required to disclose information to comply with the law or a valid legal request. We do not share your data with anyone else without your active, opt-in consent. We do not sell your personal data for profit or any other monetary transaction, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.
6. Your choices and controls
You stay in control of your information. In the app you can:
- Turn alerts on or off for each case, or for all cases at once.
- Sign out at any time.
- Delete your account and your data from within the app (open Settings).
- Change the app's language.
Understanding data sharing
We want you to make an informed choice, so here is the plain picture:
- The benefit. The limited data we handle lets us sync your cases across devices and send the alerts you turn on.
- The limits. We share data only with the service providers listed above, and only to run the app. We do not sell your data, and we do not use it for advertising.
- The risks. Because CaseTrack shows case-status information for any receipt number in your account, anyone who gains access to your email account or your unlocked device could view that information. Please keep your email and device secure.
- Impact on others. A USCIS receipt number can relate to another person's case, so only add receipt numbers you own or are authorized to track. We do not collect genetic, family-history, health, or financial information, so those categories of sharing risk do not apply to CaseTrack.
7. Data retention
We keep your information only as long as we need it:
- Your account information is kept while your account is active.
- If you ask us to delete your data, we delete it within 30 days.
- One-time sign-in codes expire automatically within minutes.
- Case data stored locally on your device stays on your device until you delete your data or uninstall the app.
- If your account becomes dormant, meaning you do not sign in or use the app for 24 months, we will delete your account and its associated personal data. Where possible we will email you first so you can keep the account active.
8. How to delete your data
Deleting your data is easy:
- Open the app and go to Settings.
- Choose Delete account (or Delete my data).
- Confirm when prompted.
When you confirm, we permanently delete your account record and your stored cases right away, and we purge them from our backups within 30 days. You can also email hello@usciscasetrack.com to request deletion, and we will complete it within the same 30-day timeline.
Step-by-step instructions are also on our data deletion page.
9. California privacy rights (CCPA/CPRA)
If you are a California resident, you have specific rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act, as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act.
In the past 12 months, we have collected these categories of personal information:
- Identifiers — your email address.
- User content — receipt numbers and nicknames you add.
- Device identifiers — your push-notification token.
You have the right to:
- Know what personal information we collect and how we use it.
- Delete your personal information.
- Correct inaccurate personal information.
- Opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal information. Please note that we do not sell your personal information and do not share it for advertising.
- Not be discriminated against for exercising any of these rights.
California residents can exercise these rights by emailing hello@usciscasetrack.com or by using the in-app deletion feature.
10. Children's privacy
CaseTrack is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.
11. Security
We take reasonable steps to protect your information:
- Data is encrypted in transit using TLS.
- One-time sign-in codes are stored only as salted hashes, never in plain text.
- Database access is locked down so each user can reach only their own data.
- Our USCIS API credentials are held only on our server and are never stored on your device.
No system can be guaranteed to be 100% secure, but we work to safeguard your information.
12. Data breach notification
If we discover a data breach that affects your personal information, we will notify you without undue delay, by email and, where appropriate, through the app. Our notice will describe, to the extent known, what happened, the information involved, and the steps you can take to protect yourself, such as securing your email account. We will also act promptly to contain and fix the issue.
13. Business transfers, and what happens if the app ends
If we are involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred to the successor organization. That organization will be required to honor this Privacy Policy. If it will not, we will give you notice and a chance to delete your data before any transfer takes effect. If CaseTrack is discontinued and no successor takes it over, we will delete or de-identify the personal data we hold. We will notify you of any change in ownership or any change in how your personal data is used.
14. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make a change, we will post the updated version with a new "Last updated" date and provide a short, plain-language summary of what changed.
For any material change to how we collect, use, or share your personal data, we will ask for your active, opt-in consent before that change takes effect. You will be able to review the summary of changes and agree before you continue using the affected features.
15. Contact us
